North Korean Hackers Steal $300 Million Through Fake Zoom Meeting Scam
North Korean hackers have siphoned over $300 million from cryptocurrency users via sophisticated fake video meeting scams, according to cybersecurity nonprofit Security Alliance (SEAL). The group reports multiple daily attempts using hijacked Telegram accounts and manipulated Zoom or Microsoft Teams sessions to distribute malware.
The attackers employ social engineering tactics, leveraging real video recordings of trusted contacts to appear legitimate. Victims are lured into downloading malicious software under the guise of technical fixes, granting hackers full access to crypto wallets, passwords, and communication platforms for further infiltration.
Security researcher Taylor Monahan confirms the operation specifically targets crypto executives and professionals. SEAL advises immediate isolation of compromised devices, wallet migration, and system wipes for anyone encountering suspicious links.
